Dooney Rock
Overview
This area around Lough Gill inspired the poet W.B. Yeats to write the The “Fiddler of Dooney”. It is an area rich in flora and fauna and as a result has been designated as an Area of Scientific Interest(ASI)and forms part of the Lough Gill Natural Heritage Area(NHA).
Things to do
Walk: This is a small attractive site on the shore of Lough Gill. The 1.2km. nature trail winds it's way through mainly coniferous trees leading to an elevated viewing point called Dooney Rock. From here the views of Lough Gill, the islands thereon and north Sligo are breath taking.
Scenic drive: Close to the route of the Wild Atlantic Way and taking in the beauty of Lough Gill and surrounding countryside..
