Coillte Schools Photography Competition is Back!

Coillte is delighted to launch it's National Tree Week Schools Photography Competition. National Tree Week takes place from 8–15 March 2026 and this year’s theme is “Growing a Greener Future Together”

Coillte encourages schools across the country to celebrate the beauty and importance of Ireland’s trees by heading outdoors, looking around, and capturing a photograph of their favourite tree or outdoor nature space. Along with the photo, you can include a brief description of why you chose this tree and the reason for the submission.

Entries close at 12pm on 24th February 2026, and four winners, one from each province, will enjoy an unforgettable class trip to Beyond the Trees Avondale, with lunch included.

Terms and conditions

1. Eligibility

The competition is open to primary schools in the Republic of Ireland. The principal/teacher of the school is responsible for submitting entries to the competition and for ensuring all student parent/legal guardian consents are in place.

2. How to enter

Submit your photo and short explanation through the form on this page. Entries must be original photography taken by the principal/teacher/students of the school and must not infringe any third-party rights.

3. Closing date

Entries close at 12:00pm on Tuesday 24th February 2026. We cannot accept late entries.

4. Prize

Four winners — one from each province — will receive a class trip to Beyond the Trees Avondale, including return transport, admission, and lunch.
There is no cash alternative.
Winners and accompanying adults must comply with all venue rules and health & safety requirements.

5. Judging

A Coillte judging panel will select the four winning entries. The panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

6. Multiple Entries

Multiple entries from the school are welcome.

7. Image use

By submitting an entry, you confirm and warrant that the submitted photo was taken with the consent of all identifiable individuals featured in it and does not infringe their privacy rights. In addition, for anyone under the age of 18 appearing in the photo, it is the responsibility of the principal/teacher of the school to ensure that consent from a parent/legal guardian has been obtained.

You also agree that Coillte may use submitted images and text for future promotion of National Tree Week across Coillte and other media channels.

8. Responsibility for entries

By submitting an entry, you warrant that the work is the original creation of the school and does not infringe any third-party rights.
You agree to indemnify and hold Coillte harmless against any claims, damages, or expenses arising from a breach of this warranty, including any infringement of intellectual property rights.

9. Duration of Use

Coillte may use this content for up to three (3) years from the competition closing date. After this period, Coillte will review and remove the content from owned channels unless fresh consent is obtained.

10. Changes and Cancellations

Coillte may amend or cancel the competition if necessary, due to unforeseen circumstances, but will make all reasonable efforts to avoid disappointment.

Coillte shall not be liable for any costs incurred by entrants in connection with the competition.

11. Right to Withdraw

Consent to use the competition photography may be withdrawn at any time by emailing communications@coillte.ie. On withdrawal, Coillte will stop future use and remove the content from owned channels were reasonably possible. Please note that content already shared by third parties or included in archival materials may not be fully retractable, but Coillte will take reasonable steps to minimise further use.

12. Data Protection

Each entrant (i.e. the principal/teacher) agrees that we process certain personal data for the purposes of running and promoting this competition event and confirms that the necessary consents are in place for same. Personal data we process may include but not limited to first name, surname, and school. For winners, personal data will be also used for the provision of prizes. Participation in the competition is entirely voluntary. However, please note that if the consent box has not been ticked we will not be able to enter the school into the competition.

Only the school winning entry details will be shared with any other third parties (please note this may also include details of students (if photographed) including first name, surname, class and school name if applicable)

Coillte will not publish the names or other personal details of entrants online without the prior consent of the school.

13. Data retention

We will keep personal data safe and will delete it three (3) years after the end of the competition. You can ask us to delete your personal data at any time. For further details on data subject rights, please refer to our Privacy Policy or contact us at dpo@coillte.ie.
