Coillte's Forestry Scholarship
Are you concerned about climate change, the environment, sustainability and the future of our planet? Would you enjoy working in nature with some office activity too? Would you like your future career to combine these things? Forestry could be for you!
The Coillte Forestry Scholarship will award a number of students attending the eligible courses either University College Dublin (UCD) or South East Technological University (SETU) up to €20,000 for the duration of their degree programme (€5,000 per year) to support with fees and living expenses.
The Scholarship is open to Leaving Certificate students and mature students who are planning to attend one of the eligible forestry undergraduate courses at UCD or SETU.
Applications are open until the 2nd May 2025 and the award will be made in Autumn 2025.
Each scholarship recipient will also be offered the opportunity of paid summer employment in Coillte from first year onwards and will be considered for future job opportunities at Coillte.
Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship?
Leaving Certificate and mature students who are planning to attend one of the eligible forestry undergraduate courses at UCD or SETU are welcome to apply.

How to apply
- Complete the online application form before the closing date of 2nd May 2025
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited to make a video submission.
- Final shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview with Coillte.

Opportunities for Students
Transition Year Placements
Coillte Forest facilitates formal work experience for a number of second level students each year. This work experience gives students the opportunity to experience what work is like and explore options for possible future careers.
Our Transition Year Programme runs over specific weeks in the Academic Year where we bring a number of students from different backgrounds/schools/locations together to be introduced to the Forest industry and what a career with Coillte may look like.
Students applying will need:
- Application Form
- Insurance Letter of Indemnity from your School
- Written permission from your parent/guardian
- Copy of your birth certificate

If you have submitted an application for consideration, we will be back in touch in due course. Student Internship Programme
Coillte offers an internship programme across its business divisions, allowing students to integrate theory with practical work experience while assisting businesses with work.
Coillte’s Student Internship Programme provides supervised career related work experience that allows students to apply their knowledge and skills learned in the classroom in a professional work environment whilst also completing valuable work of benefit and great support to the Company.

Our Forestry Student Internship Program enhances students educational background by providing opportunities for career exploration and development of industry specific skills while encouraging personal development. The programme runs concurrent with each academic calendar. Hours of work vary and some internships can involve additional hours.
