Dublin Mountains Makeover – Tree Felling and Replanting Operations Commencing
Dublin Mountains Makeover Tree Felling and Replanting Operations
Tree felling and replanting operations are commencing at a number of locations in the Dublin Mountains forests as part of the ongoing Dublin Mountains Makeover project.
A section of forest in Cruagh, where felling commenced last year but was stopped due to the weather, will recommence again this week. Please note temporary trail diversions will be necessary for a period. Please follow signage and updates on www.dublinmountains.ie.
A small section of forest in Carrickgollogan will also be felled, as some of the trees here are starting to blow over.
Another section of forest between Ticknock and Kilmashogue is also scheduled for R&R – tree removal and replanting with native woodland, and works will commence here in the coming weeks. Again, visitors are asked to please follow all safety signage during the operations and watch out for timber lorries.
Replanting Works:
You will also notice that some areas felled over the last year or two are getting ready for planting this winter. Areas at Tibradden and Cruagh forests have had deer fences erected in advance of tree planting to protect the young saplings from deer browsing by Sika deer. Other locations at Cruagh and Ballyedmonduff forests will also be fenced in the coming weeks. Tree planting with native Irish saplings will commence in December this year.
These works are part of the Dublin Mountains Makeover project which will see an area of over 900 hectares across nine Coillte forests transitioning away from primarily wood producing forests, to forests managed primarily for recreation, biodiversity and climate.
