Status Red Weather Warning – Coillte Urges Recreation Users Not To Enter Forests in Affected Areas as Storm Darragh Approaches
Friday 22nd November:
Met Éireann has issued the following weather warning, Status Red – Wind warning for counties Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
Coillte advises recreational users and visitors not to enter forest lands in affected areas during this Met Éireann Status Red weather warning.
Forest recreation sites in affected Red Warning counties will be closed for the duration of the weather warning and will not reopen until Monday December 9th.
Met Éireann has also issued the following weather warnings – Status Orange – wind warning for the entire country.
Coillte advises all users of forest lands including its staff, contractors and members of the public, to exercise caution if entering forest lands in affected areas during this Met Éireann status Orange weather warning.
Possible impacts include, Fallen trees, Damage to power lines, Dangerous travelling conditions, Structural damage to temporary structures, Wave overtopping
Local restrictions may be in place in our forests and Coillte kindly asks visitors to follow all safety signage on site.
The weather warning is Valid from: 20:00 Friday 06/12/2024 to 10:00 Saturday 07/12/2024
Fallen and overhanging trees pose an extremely dangerous risk to the public and Coillte is urging everyone to remain vigilant and to exercise extreme caution if entering forest lands over the coming days. Members of the public should not approach fallen or overhanging trees as they pose a significant health and safety risk and access routes blocked by trees should only ever be cleared by trained experts.
