Status Orange Weather Warning – Coillte Urges People To Exercise Caution in Affected Areas

Friday 24rd January:

Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Connacht, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath

Coillte advises all users of forest lands including its staff, contractors and members of the public, to exercise caution if entering forest lands during this weather warning as storm Eowyn moves through the country.

Many of Coillte’s forest recreation sites in affected counties remain closed.

Possible Impacts Include:

  • Fallen trees
  • Damage to power lines and power outages
  • Structural damage
  • Very difficult travelling conditions
  • Disruption and cancellations to transport
  • Wave overtopping

 

Fallen and overhanging trees pose an extremely dangerous risk to the public and Coillte is urging everyone to remain vigilant and to exercise extreme caution if entering forest lands over the coming days. Members of the public should not approach fallen or overhanging trees as they pose a significant health and safety risk and access routes blocked by trees should only ever be cleared by trained experts.
