Slievenamon Wildfire Response
Thursday 23rd July 2026: Coillte can confirm that a significant wildfire remains active on Slievenamon Mountain Co. Tipperary. The fire is understood to have originated on open mountain ground before spreading into an adjacent Coillte forest. Coillte personnel remain at the scene alongside crews from Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service and the Air Corps, as efforts continue to bring the fire under control. Two helicopters are supporting operations from the air.
It is too early to determine the cause of the fire or the full extent of the damage caused. Coillte and the emergency services will remain on site until the wildfire has been fully contained.
Members of the public are urged to stay away from the area and keep local access roads clear to allow emergency vehicles unhindered access. The public is also asked not to operate drones in the vicinity, as they pose a significant risk to helicopter operations.
Separately, Coillte reminds the public that a Status Orange High Forest Fire Risk Warning remains in effect until 12 noon on Friday, 24 July.
Continued vigilance is required in all areas with open public access, particularly where high-risk activities may occur. Particular care should be taken on all peatland areas. Landowners and land managers are encouraged to remain alert to any signs of fire activity and to report suspicious incidents to An Garda Síochána.
Visitors to forests and other recreational areas should follow all fire safety guidance, comply with relevant bye-laws and avoid using barbeques or any other outdoor fire sources on forest lands for the duration of the warning. Visitors to the countryside are also asked to park responsibly and ensure access routes remain clear for emergency services.
In the interests of public safety Coillte advises people as follows:
- Do not light fires in and around forests or open land
- Do not attempt to intervene or fight fires under any circumstances
- Move to a safe fuel-free location such as a car park, upwind of the fire.
- Call the Fire and Rescue Services on 112 and report the fire and its location
- Evacuate if instructed to do so, and cooperate with all Emergency Service Instructions.
