Carrick Wood
Overview
Carrick Wood is a beautiful broadleaf woodland of just 32 hectares with a picnic area and forest walk. Well worth exploring, there is a folly, known locally as the Spire, set on a high point within the wood. It was built on top of an earlier windmill by the Viscount Carlow in order to give employment during a hard winter. Restoration work on the Spire was carried out in 2005.
Things to do
Walk: There is a waymarked trail to the Spire (1.5km, 40mins, moderate) that will bring you to the entrance of this wonderful folly
