The Lord’s Wood
Overview
Welcome to the Lord’s Wood, a Forest Service Neighbourwood scheme project in partnership with Coillte and the local community in Baltinglas.
The Lord’s Wood was originally part Benjamin O’Neale Stratford the Earl of Alderough’s estate. And the piers at the entrance leading to the car park are from the original estate.
Another historical feature of the woods that can still be seen on the landscape behind the wall bordering the N81is the route of an old railway line that ceased service in the late 1950’s.
Things to do
There is a lovely looped walk in the forest with plenty of views of the surrounding country side, walking through majestic mature beech trees.
The Lords Wood Loop 2 km 40 minutes – Red markers – Easy
Don't miss the hidden gems
On your walk around look out for wooden sculptures and fixtures, even flying fish.
Maybe take a rest on a giant dice seat.
