Overview
This is a spectacular forest site situated on the northern slopes of Knocknarea Mountain overlooking Strandhill and Sligo Bay. The sound of the Wild Atlantic waves breaking on the shore line at Strandhill fills the air. Superb views over the sea and the County Sligo countryside can be taken in along the two looped walks.
Things to do
Walk: There are two looped walks which start from the forest car park trail head.
Rathcarrick Loop: This is short 1.2 Km which climbs gently offering views over Sligo Bay before returning to the car park.
Queen Maeve Trail: This is a 6.5 Km loop providing a fantastic experience taking visitors towards Standhill before a steep climb to the summit of Knocknarea an returning to the forest car park via the southern side of the mountain with views over Ballysadare and the Ox Mountains.
