Knockranny – Colonels Wood

Knockranny, known locally as Colonel’s Wood, a close to home woodland amenity where local people and visitors can enjoy nature, walking and outdoor activity in an accessible forest setting.

Located close to Westport town and directly connected to the Greenway, this woodland is a popular everyday recreation space for the local community and visitors. Improved public access, woodland trails and car park facilities now make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy strolling, family visits, picnics, dog walking, jogging and other outdoor activities.

Coillte has restored part of the property from conifer forest to native woodland and designated a significant area of broadleaf woodland under the NeighbourWood scheme. This work supports biodiversity, strengthens the ecological value of the site and creates a more natural woodland experience for the local community.
