Kilcornan Wood
Overview
Kilcornan Woodland, formerly part of the historic Reddington Estate, is currently managed by Coillte as a mixed-species high forest that serves as a popular destination for recreation. The area is open to walkers, cyclists, and is accessible to individuals using wheelchairs and buggies. Recent collaborations with Galway County Council, Brothers of Charity Services, and the Clarinbridge community have connected trails between adjacent properties, supporting the development of an expanded walking trail network for public benefit.
The recreational trail system has been enhanced through a grant of €200,000 in 2024 from the Department of Rural and Community Development, enabling the establishment of an extensive trail network totalling approximately 8km. Visitors can now choose from a variety of routes ranging from 2.5km to 7km, suitable for all levels of adventure.
Notable sites within and surrounding Kilcornan Woodland include the 13th-century church dedicated to St. Cornan, a holy well, and a stone cross. Additional amenities such as playing fields and playgrounds are situated along the trails, further enriching the visitor experience.
