Hazelwood
Overview
This site is open, but access through the site is heavily restricted due to recent storm damage. Please bear with us as we work to clear and repair storm damage and follow any safety signage on site.
This forested of Hazelwood formed part of the Wynne Estate. Hazelwood House was built in 1724 and is probably Sligo’s finest 18TH century house. The house was designed by Richard Cassells who also designed Leinster House and Powerscourt House.
Things to do
Walk: This is a loop trail of 3 km with two shorter alternatives available. It starts in the car park and follows along the lakeshore. Along the walk you can see various islands in Lough Gill among them Church Island, Goat Island and Cottage Island.
As a nature trail there is information signs on trees along the route.
Scenic drive: Close to the route of the Wild Atlantic Way and taking in the beauty of Lough Gill and surrounding countryside..
