Gragan’s Wood
Overview
Gragan’s wood ( Coill na nGragan ) is situated in the internationally renowned Burren, an extensive limestone karst region. The Burren is famous for it’s geological features, archaeological remains and magnificent flora. Originally this area was densely forested with pine and yew which was cleared for farming over the centuries. The unique landscape of the Burren contains a mixture of artic, alpine and Mediterranean plants. The main tree species in this area is Sitka spruce with some beech with heather and bracken on the open areas. Fauna include grouse and pheasant, pine marten, fox badger and hare.
Things to do
Walk: forest roads network of walking trails which are not way marked. The Burren way passes close to the forest property.
