Clashganny
Overview
A popular river side destination, this forest area provides a 3.6km looped walk along the barrow navigation and through an immersive remarkable woodland with views over the area.
The Coillte layby car park is at the top, called the viewing area, but additional parking is also available down at the lock.
Things to do
The Clashganny Lock Loop is 3.6 km – 1.5 hours – moderate. If starting from the viewing area carpark follow the forest road downhill for about 1 km and the walk through the forest will be on your right.
This path provides a leisurely stroll on a riverside towpath beside the River Barrow and a forest trail over a softly rolling hillside within a serene, ancient woodland that has been forested since the 1800s. It boasts splendid vistas of Clashganny Lock, Ballykeenan Lock, and the River Barrow.
