Log Scaling Technician

Role Objective

Responsible for implementing Coillte’s volume/weight (VW) measurement system, managing the daily operation of the Automated Weighbridge System (AWS) at Woodfab Timber Ltd, Aughrim, Co Wicklow and Michael Grace Timber, Baltinglass, Co Wicklow and cover at Murray’s Timber, Ballon, Co. Carlow.

Reports to: Revenue Assurance Manager

Location: Woodfab Timber, Aughrim, Co Wicklow and Michael Grace Timber, Baltinglass, Co Wicklow plus cover at Murray’s Timber, Ballon, Co. Carlow

Responsibilities

  • Act as Coillte’s representative in liaison with our Key sawmill customers.
  • Measure volume/weight samples and calculate volume weight factors.
  • Enter these factors onto the AWS.
  • Review CCTV footage to monitor timber loads under Coilltes responsibility that enter the sawmill.
  • Review CCTV footage to monitor that all loads under Coilltes responsibility are weighed in accordance with weighing procedures.
  • Review CCTV footage to monitor the integrity of the VW samples.
  • Verify timber weighing transactions on the AWS to ensure good data integrity.
  • Verify VW sampling schedules to ensure accurate sampling intensities.
  • Issue key fobs to lorry drivers as requested by Trimble Galway.
  • Maintain the AWS hardware in good working order.
  • General upkeep of the Coillte and AWS offices
  • Help and support lorry drivers and sawmill staff in the use of the AWS.
  • Implement Coillte’s Log Quality procedures at sawmill level.
  • Implement and monitor Coillte’s Code of Practice for Timber Removals.
  • All customer information and data is confidential to that customer and should not be disclosed with any other party.
  • Other duties that may be specified on a needs basis.

Desired Technical Competencies

  • ICT: Good ICT skills would be an advantage.
  • Timber Measurement Skills : Strong technical skills in Timber Measurement
