Forests are more important than ever. Coillte manages its forests sustainably to help combat climate change, to supply wood for building homes, to protect habitats for nature, and to provide beautiful places for people to enjoy.

That’s why Coillte is producing a home-grown supply of Irish wood, supporting the construction of our homes and providing local jobs. And, for every tree we harvest, three new ones are planted, ensuring a sustainable cycle.

Wood and wood products from our sustainably managed forests have a significant role to play in climate change mitigation.

Not only do our trees absorb or sequester carbon dioxide as they grow, but the harvested wood continues to store this carbon in a variety of long-life wood products resulting in a positive environmental impact. These long-life wood products will build the low carbon homes of the future and underpin Ireland’s ambition of decarbonising the built environment helping to achieve ‘net zero’ by 2050.

COILLTE'S FUTURE AMBITIONS AIM TO:

Produce 25 million cubic metres of certified Irish timber, to support the construction of 300,000 homes by 2030

Promote the use and benefits of wood products to help increase the level of timber homes from 20% to 80% by 2050

Develop innovative wood products to meet the growing demand for sustainable materials to support the bioeconomy

Our wood is being used to develop new cellulose and lignin based low carbon products to displace fossil based ones

Coillte is Ireland’s largest provider of outdoor recreation with 260 recreational forests nationwide, including 3,000km of way marked walking trails, 12 forest parks and six mountain bike centres.
