Roscommon. The wind farm was granted planning permission in March 2012 and construction began in June 2015 and is scheduled to enter commercial operations in spring 2017<\/p>\n<p><strong>Capacity:<\/strong> 58MW<\/p>\n<p><strong>Homes powered Annually:<\/strong> Approximately 37,700 homes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy Produced:<\/strong> 213,400 MWh<\/p>\n<p><strong>Number of Turbines: <\/strong>20 Siemens turbines<\/p>\n<p><strong>Type of Turbine:<\/strong> Siemens SWT 3.2 - 101<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total turbine tower height 78m<\/li>\n<li>Length of each blade: 49m<\/li>\n<li>Height to tip of blade: 130m<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong> The Sliabh Bawn wind farm is located approximately five kilometers south east of Strokestown, Co. Roscommon, in \u00a0Doughill Forest on Sliabh Bawn mountain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Co-ordinates:<\/strong> 53\u00b045\u201904.52\u201dN, -8\u00b002\u201939.07\u201dW<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community Fund: <\/strong>\u20ac87,500 annually over 27 years<\/p>\n<p><strong>Current Status:<\/strong> Operational<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sliabh Bawn Story - by video:<\/strong>\u00a0 During the course of the project film footage was captured which has now been used to create a\u00a05 minute video showing how the Sliabh Bawn Wind Farm was constructed and developed.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Coillte - The Sliabh Bawn Story\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GfJ0QDvdWGE?start=72&feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Recreation Facilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday 2<sup>nd<\/sup> September over 500 members of the local community gathered at Sliabh Bawn for the official opening of the Sliabh Bawn recreational facilities. The new amenities include a trim trail for fitness, an equestrian trail, six looped walks, a raised viewing platform and a new picnic area. The amenities were developed as part of the Sliabh Bawn wind farm and represent a 500K investment by Sliabh Bawn Power a joint venture between Coillte and Bord na Mona.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the opening of the amenities Sliabh Bawn Power hosted a free family day for all community. Activities kicked off with a 5k fun run and 10K run along the new trails.
