Harvesting Technology Specialist

Role Objective

To support the development and implementation of a vibrant technology capability and culture which will drive efficiency, productivity and new revenue growth with particular emphasis (but not exclusively) on the harvesting and logistics areas, while monitoring the capacity and competency of the harvesting contractor base and ensuring it is suitably developed and trained to support the long term strategy of a "connected forest".

Role Responsibilities

People, Leadership, Organisation and Culture

  • To support the overall Process Team in creating a culture of innovation, collaboration and simplification across all the processes and operations.
  • To support the promotion of a commercial culture in operations where decisions are made with full consideration of maximising revenue and reducing cost.
  • To support the promotion of an attitude of simplification to reduce complexity and allow us to do our best work.
  • Actively promote and prioritise a safe working environment for our people, our contractors and customers in the forest estate.
  • Be accountable for developing own contribution to the business which includes driving personal development initiatives.
  • Act as a visible role model for the Group’s values.

Planning & Management

  • To support the implementation of the harvesting technology strategy to support the execution of the overall harvesting strategy.
  • To be innovative in the harvesting and logistical technology area.
  • To support initiatives across Coillte Forest that will support the Coillte Forest strategy.
  • To work with the BAUs to strive to maximise value recovery from the estate.

Operations

  • To ensure all necessary telemetry audits are carried out to support log optimisation to maximise value recovery.
  • To manage the harvesting machine operator group and collate any learnings from their work.
  • To support any development of business strategies for all sections of the Harvesting Process, in order to improve quality, reduce cost, increase standardisation, best practice and implement streamlined business processes.
  • To support a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement in all our forest operations to eliminate waste and inefficiency.
  • To provide technical support and training to both Coillte harvesting staff and our harvesting contractors.

Customers

  • To continually drive a Quality Service to our Customers, which meets or exceeds commitments.
  • Liaise closely with the harvesting managers to ensure they have the proper support in order the maximise the value recovery from the estate.

Desired Technical / Professional Qualities

  • Education and Experience: Relevant qualification in Forestry or related discipline with a minimum of three years’ experience working in an operations role.
  • Commercial and Financial Acumen: Can focus on financial and commercial implications of their own activities through minimising costs and maximising revenues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge and experience to promote a safe-working environment and ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory and silvicultural standards.
