Nursery Works Operative

Role Objective

Responsible for the provision of operational and office support and coordination of seed and vegetative propagration operations in nurseries whilst ensuring safe work practices and environmental compliance. Also responsible for data capture, and liaising with various stakeholders to ensure  operational programs are achieved.

Reports to: Seed and Vegetative Propagation Manager

Location: Ballintemple Nursery

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a range of operational and practical duties associated with seed collection, processing, pre-treatment, stock management, testing, and coordination of customer orders.
  • Support the development of new and the ongoing maintenance of existing seed orchards.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of our operational programmes, including assigning work to contract staff and supervision to ensure the required quality standards are met.
  • Provide support in the production of forestry planting stock particularly in relation vegetative propagation.
  • Carry out stock inventory, sampling and testing.
  • Collection and recording of relevant field information through crop surveys and inspections.
  • Provide field information to the Seed Manager in preparation of operational plans.
  • Support the promotion of a safe working environment for our people, our contractors, and customers.
  • Be a point of contact between nursery and customers (internal & external) by understanding their requirements through site visits/field days.
  • Ensure operations are carried out in accordance with relevant EU directives.

Desired Technical / Professional Qualities

  • Education and Experience: A relevant qualification in horticulture/forestry or related discipline to HETAC Level 5 and/or at least three years’ operational experience working in a horticulture/forest environment.
  • ICT: Proficient IT and office management skills.
