District W2. East Galway / Roscommon District Strategic Plan 2006 - 2010
District East Galway/Roscommon is one of 13 Districts in Coillte the State Forestry Board. It covers the areas of East Galway and all of Roscommon with the exception of the Curlew mountains. The majority of the District is located on flat low-lying land, with elevations ranging from 10m to approximately 80m. There are no mountains in the District with the result that landscape issues are not a major concern.
The District consists of 20,125 ha of mostly highly productive forest land including 1,620 ha of Farm Partnership, it is also unique in the western part of the country due to the overall area of old estate woodland plantation forestry present. Some 1,927ha or 10% of forest area in East Galway/Roscommon District are located on old woodland sites, those are sites recorded on the first edition of the ordinance survey maps 1833-1844A.D
