While timber is the principal product of the forest our forests also provide a wide range of other products and services. These include:

• Forest recreation: walking, orienteering, hill running, paintball, camping and caravanning (in designated areas only), pony trekking and trail riding and cycling.
• Hunting and fishing: deer stalking, game bird shooting and fishing.
• Motor sport: car rallying and motorcycling.
• Forest fruits: berry, herb and mushroom picking.

A charge is payable for some of these activities while others are available free to forest users.
