Land Type Classification
Land Classification presents information on the different forest and land use types, and the area of land that is contained in each. Coillte's estate is divided into 14 different land use types. These land use types can be grouped into three broad categories:
- Forested Area = conifer high forest + broadleaved high forest + mixed high forest + scrub + undeveloped.
- Total Plantable Reserve = felled areas + burned areas + windblown areas + bare plantable areas.
- Total Unplantable Reserve = bare marginal + bare unplantable + waterlogged areas + lakes, rivers, reservoirs + miscellaneous (e.g., buildings).
For explanations on each of the land use types, visit Land Use Type - Definitions.
There are many ways of calculating and presenting the data on land classification. The data on the website are gross area figures. Gross area represents the total area of Coillte's estate.
Choose the information that you require at national level or by county.
