Age Class Distribution presents data on the age of our forests in 10-year age classes.

The data presented for Age Class distribution are calculated from the productive forest areas (i.e., Conifer High Forest, Broadleaved High Forest and Mixed High Forest).

The data are presented as net area figures. The gross area has been reduced to take account of gaps in the canopy and does not include non-forested areas e.g. burned, felled, blown etc. areas.

Net Area = Gross Area (or total area) - gaps in forested area - non-forested area.
