Afforestation
The Afforestation Grant and Premium Scheme administered by the Forest Service provides a package to encourage the planting of land by compensating forest owners for the initial costs of establishing the forest and by providing an annual forest premium payment for 15-20 years. The scheme is open to farmers and non-farmers. Forests established under this scheme must meet full silvicultural standards and must be managed as a commercial crop for the realization of a profit.
Grant
The grant is designed to cover the cost of planting and establishing the crop from year 1 to year 4. click here for table of current Forest Service Rates.
Premium
From year 1 to year 20 inclusive, you will receive a tax-free premium of €427 per ha. 10 ha. x €427 = €4,270 p.a.Click here to see a table of premium rates
Gross Timber RevenuesWe estimate that the total revenue from 4 thinnings will be worth approximately €8,510 (6,702)/ha. 10 ha. = €85,100 (67,021). We estimate that the total revenue from clearfell will be worth approximately €41,900 (32,998)/ha. 10 ha. = €419,000 (329,989). Total timber revenues = €504,100 (379,011) All these figures are based on: Existing EU grants/premiums and a site that has Sitka spruce yield class 20
