Coillte launches "Healthy Forests, Healthy People" exhibition to mark International Biodiversity Day
- The new exhibition at ENFO features information on recreation and nature
conservation in Coillte's forests
Thursday 21st May, Dublin. Coillte, the forestry and forest products company, will be celebrating International Biodiversity Day tomorrow at its new exhibition "Healthy Forests, Healthy People", at the offices of ENFO in Dublin. To help mark the day, Coillte will be giving away a limited number of free native saplings on Friday.
"Healthy Forests, Healthy People" is an exhibition show-casing the environmental and recreational amenity provided by Coillte's forests. It features recreation, habitat restoration and the management of biodiversity on the company's estate, and has just been launched this week - Biodiversity Week.
Coillte ecologist, Pat Neville commented that: "Coillte recognises the central role that forests play for nature conservation and biodiversity and today we are actively restoring some of Ireland's most important woodland habitats. As Ireland's leading forestry company, we are delighted to participate in Biodiversity Week by organising this exhibition here at ENFO during May and June, and are encouraging people to go for a walk in their local Coillte forest to enjoy nature in a healthy and sustainable way."
This exhibition is currently on display in ENFO, 17 St Andrew's Street (off Grafton Street) Dublin 2.
Featured in this exhibition are Coillte's contribution to:
-
The Dublin Mountains Partnership (DMP) established alongside local authorities and recreation users to provide an improved recreation experience on the public lands in the Dublin Mountains
-
Over 2,000 km of walking and cycling trails across some of the most beautiful Irish landscape
-
More than 150 recreation sites and 10 forest parks maintained by the company
-
Quality trees for quality forests grown by Coillte Nurseries
-
Responsibly managed forests: 88,000 hectares of Coillte's estate managed with biodiversity as the primary objective
Also on display will be samples of native Irish tree and shrub species available from Coillte Nurseries. A series of lunchtime lectures will be held each Thursday at 1.15p.m. during June (upstairs in ENFO). Lectures will include topics such as Biodiversity, Nature Conservation and Recreation.
